Headstands and Boxing

I had planned a run today but I decided to put it off to tomorrow since it's been blowing a gale outside today. I don't mind rain but wind really annoys me and since I can still fit in my three planned runs by putting it off I decided that was best. Now it will probably be just as windy tomorrow knowing my luck hehe! I'm really looking forward to running, I've got loads of nervous energy at the moment and I think a run is just the release I need to get it out!

The other reason I held off the run was because Mike really wanted a gymnastics partner. We did all our usual stuff except instead of handstands I decided to do headstands... I'm still not progressing on the handstands and I'm hoping the headstands will help me get used to being upside down and will help me get the core stregnth I need to stabilise myself... Time will tell!

We did a horrible finisher today!
30s heavy bag - 30s burpees - 30s heavy bag - 30s burpees - 30s rest repeat 3 times.

Ouch! My legs are going to be sore tomorrow! Getting some bag work in was good though, I love doing gymnastics with a boxing finisher, good combo of stregnth and conditioning.

After we'd finished we made some lunch. I had some wholemeal toast with baked beans and nutritional yeast mixed in. It tastes just like cheesy beans but so much healthier, it's high in B vitamins and protein. Perfect with a big dollop of ketchup!

I also finally got round to trying one of Jag's protein frappucinos. I love the idea but I think I need to try it with some better protein powder, I used plain Holland and Barrett soya protein and tried to sweeten it myself and I just couldn't get past the protein aftertaste.
Then I chilled out on the sofa with Roxie :-)
Tia hasn't been on the blog much lately...
So I caught her doing what she does best..
Zzzzzzzzzzzzzz

What are you doing with that camera??
Hope everyone's had a great weekend! What are your plans for the week?

Density Day

I'm embarrassed to post my weekly totals this week.. I know I was off running but what is up with them..! I hope these dodgy numbers help kick my bum into gear for next week!

Miles - 4
Gymnastics - 1
Boxing - 1
Core - 1

Today I did a bodyweight strength density session, as many reps as possible in 20 minutes, I'm happy to say I wooped my last attempt! Last times numbers in brackets.

Push-ups - 40 (27)
Chin-ups (some reps are negatives) - 10 (6+37s hold)
Frog stand - 65s (36s)
Chair dips - 75 (43)

I'm amazed I even beat my last time's numbers as I'm feeling pretty rubbish today, I feel like I've got yet another throat infection coming along.. If I do it will be the third in less than three months, the last two have put me out of action for almost two weeks a time so I really, really hope this is a false alarm and these itchy sore tonsils are back to normal tomorrow. If not I guess I'm going to have to go to the docs again and see what they say, booo :-( Anyone got any advice on avoiding throat infections? I've heard to change my toothbrush so once this one goes I'm going to use a new one. I hope it's something as simple as that!

We went to my mum and dad's for a barbeque today, I ate inside with Mike though as we brought Roxie who thought it would be fun to try and eat all of mum's prized flowers! Eeeek! I forgot to snap a pic until part way through my plate but I had some tofu and vegetable skewers, a nutburger, salad, coleslaw a couple of quorn goujons and a potato waffle... sooooo full!

Before I go to watch the rest of Anchorman here's a few of Roxie's latest pics :-)
I might be a teensy bit biased but I think she has the prettiest eyes I've ever seen!
See you all tomorrow, hopefully without a nasty throat! Cross your fingers for me please!!

Killer Boxing Finisher

We did some gymnastics today, all the usual moves! I seem to be one step forward two steps back with the gymnastics stuff, it's hard! But it's getting there, even if it's slowly!

Handstand
L-sit progressions
Frog stand
Back lever progressions

The handstands are still being done by climbing up against the wall, I added some small push-up movements in this time though :-) I hope I stop getting so dizzy soon!! Slightly terrified of falling on my head as I get dizzy almost straight away.. I think I'm just a big wimp really!

We did a boxing finisher afterwards, 10 minutes of 30s high intensity/30s rest, it was hard but good hehe! The last 30s I punched constantly as hard as I could then flopped on the floor as soon as the buzzer went, I was so glad for it to be over haha! It's great because 30s is just short enough to work at a really intense rate but the 30s recovery gets harder and harder everytime so you really feel like you're getting a good bit of work done in a really short space of time.

I think I mentioned the ginger cat who visits our garden, he/she came again tonight and I snapped a picture, isn't he adorable (I'm going to call it he as it has a blue collar on and I think it's a boy..)!

I am slightly worried though, he seems to play with Tia and they have seemed playful and stuff the past times he's been in but today I'm not sure if he was chasing her too much, at one point she ran out and I don't want him to be scaring her out of the garden.. I'm not sure what to do, I don't want to chase away a play mate but I don't want her to feel pushed out of her space.. I'll have to keep an eye on it! - If anyone has any suggestions or similar experiences I'd appreciate hearing about them :-)

Here's some of Roxie growing too, here she is today at the park and...
Totally worn out!

Now that picture is what I feel like now, I sense an early night coming!

Running and Working

As you all know I've been struggling to fit in workouts around work and struggling to find the right balance. On Thursday I decided to run home from work, it's 4 miles, well, just under so I ran around my street for a little bit to top it up hehe! Mike was worried the roads might be too busy but I just paused the watch to cross them and was extra careful! My only problem was carrying my work stuff home in a rucksack, in future I'm going to leave my uniform at work and carry my money and phone home in my handy arm pocket. The run home started off fast but the rucksack soon got annoying, I've got a wierd blood blister thing on my neck where it rubbed yuck! I'm definately going to make this a regular thing though :-)

4 miles in 36.39 average pace 9.10 per mile
Mile 1 - 8.50
Mile 2 - 9.43
Mile 3 - 9.23
Mile 4 - 9.02

Friday was my day off so I got a good workout in in my own time, it was soo hot! I'm looking forward to the cooler weather in terms of my workouts! We did some boxing;

7 x 3 minute rounds, 1 minute rest.

Each round consisted of 1 minute shadow boxing, 1 minute skill work on the bag, 30s shadow boxing, 30s fast power punches on the bag.... was tough!

Today we did gymnastics, we did ;
Handstands... I'm still terrible!
Tuck l-sits
Skin the cat
Frog stand

It felt better this time, I can't believe I managed to do the skin the cat haha, when I flipped over on the pull-up bar and saw the carpet it was wierd, glad I didn't fall on my head! I did have Mike standing there ready to catch me cause I wasn't sure!

I've been taking loads more Roxie pictures! She's growing!! She's learning really well, yesterday I got her to sit, paw, lie down and wait until I told her to eat the treat all with hand signals! She can do it when I say it too, I sound like a proud momma cause I am hehe, Mike's taking her to a training class tomorrow night with a neighbour who has a doberman, I wish I could go too but I'm at my first trustee meeting with SEED, which I'm also really excited about.

This is Roxie last week at my parent's house

Chillin' with her daddy

playing with my little bro and her teddy

Dad trying to play... Roxie was all wiped out after too much excitement!

Struggling to stay awake

Getting to know Tia (she's just been spayed)

her favourite ball...

chillin' again!
Cuddles!

Tired pets

getting a treat for playing nice with Tia

This one was after Mike had told her off for something and then turned his back to her, she then lay down next to him mirroring him, I thought it was really funny/cute!
Hope everyone's had a great weekend!
